Kushiro wetland became to attract attention since it was nominated as National Park on 1987. The number of tourism has increased since then although it faces slightly decreasing treand recnetly. In 1994, the number of tourism reached to the peak, which was 870 million people.
Not only just for visiting, but also for environmental education and eco-tour, Kushiro wetland is actively utilized as important resources to offer the opportunities for those purpose. There is, however, some spin-off problems arise due to the increase of tourism, such as accumulation of rubbish, so it is highly demamded to set manner and rule clearly for tourism to use wetland properly. There is also the problems of unbalanced distribution of visitours to the westside of wetland.
