Increase Pressure to Surrounding Environment

The number of livestocks has increased continuously over 50 yeas this reasion, but at the same time environmental load, in the form of excessive fertilizer and livestock excreta, due to this increase of livestock has also dramatically increased. If exceessive amount of livestock excreta would be introduced into the watershed for example, it would effect Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BOD) level and eventually have possibility to damage aquatic lives.

The amount of excreta per cow is estimated about 50 times of that of human being. Based on this coefficient, "50 people per cow," it would be calculated that there would be 2.5 million people around Kushiro wetland region. If there were no sufficient treatment for livestock excreta, loading onto environment would be more than one can imagine
