Large Scale Dairy Farming
Kushiro and Nemuro region (shown in orange color on the right figure) has encouraged dairy farming after World War 2. The motivation of this momemtum was the fact that this region was not suitable for regular agriculture due to the severe weather condition. Currently, the number of livestocks of this region is about 40% of those of Hokkaido, and this region is widely recognized as the largest dairy farming base in Japan.
Not only the number of livestockes, but also the scale of those dairy farming is also the important characteristics. At this region, the number of livestocks per farmer currently reaches to 90.
