Use and Characteristics of Kushiro River
IKushiro river is known as principle river to flow inot Kushiro wetland, and takes the source water from Kussyaro-Lake. The length is 154 km and the basin of Kushiro river is the forth biggest at Hokkaido folllowing to Ishikari, Teshio, and Tokachi rivers.
Since Kushiro river has the stable water source (Kussyaro-lake), small gradient from upstream to downstream, and Kushiro wetland as a balancing reservoir, the rate of flow is fairly constant at any time. This becomes notable if compared to the one of the other rivers as right figure.
The sources of water used at Kushiro-shi rely on the surface water and almost all of those come from Kushiro river. As shown at figure below, 64% of those are used for domestic purpose, and left are for industrial purpose. |
